Don’t ask me that. My answer is not simple. I must explain that I attend 3 Churches. All of them are different denominations. Yes, I do identify with one specific denomination (Church of God). Yes, to my Mother’s relief, I am Pentecostal. But no, I’m not stuffy enough to believe that God cannot be properly worshiped or experienced behind one denominational wall. Yes, I realize much of my theology seems to stand in contradiction to the basic tenets of the faith. But no, one can maintain Calvinistic theology within the Church of God.
My voice sounds very ugly right now and it’s preventing me from singing. I want nothing more than to rid myself of this cold and start singing southern gospel music. Later this week my Mother and I are going to break out the old hymnal and practice a few songs. As soon as this wretched cold goes away I shall return to my secret love for little country churches.
I’m sick. I’m still in pajamas. So far today I’ve had two bowls of cereal and some funyuns. I’ve watched The Passion of the Christ, and read about Herod Antipas. I’ve talked to my Mom. I’ve talked to Nasser. I’ve prayed. I just found out that my friend’s baby was born today.
Part of me wants to shower and go out with some friends.
The other part of me wants to have another bowl of cereal…
The reason true Christians do not fall from grace is that God graciously keeps them from falling. Perseverance is what we do. Preservation is what God does. We persevere because God preserves.RC Sproul (via p3rspective)
I’m still trying to understand the lenten season. It seems strange to me. We attempt to fast from something for about 40 days. Fasting is meant to be done in private. But at the same time, we all ask each other “what are you giving up for Lent?” And then we can break our fasts on Sunday?
To take up your cross is to consider it better to die than to live for something other than Jesus.Richard Chin (via petitmonieau)
